The initial view of the Google Assistant Driving Mode is now available in India

  • Google’s latest app updates indicate that it wants to keep Android Auto only with the car while your phone acts as a separate entity.

    Another change in this direction is the international launch of the previous preview for Google Assistant’s driving mode.

    The feature is integrated into Google Maps for more seamless integration with smartphone navigation experiences.

  • In this article Driving Mode can be enabled via Maps, Google Assistant settings simplified interfaces to access all Android Auto compatible apps.
  • Setup process can be enabled in Maps mode using Google Assistant settings.
  • The international launch has made driving modes available in Australia, the United Kingdom, Ireland, India, and Singapore.

    To set Driving Mode, open Google Maps, tap your profile picture, then go to Settings> Navigation settings> Google Assistant Settings and turn on Tagging Mode.

    Alternatively, let’s say “Google, open assistant settings”. Then select Transport> Driving Mode and turn it on.

  • What is the driving mode? Simple interface lets you access all Android Auto compatible apps
  • Once activated, a red gray bar appears at the bottom of the navigation screen. It has a microphone icon on the left that activates the assistant, a button in the middle that shows your last unlocked app, and a button on the left that launches an app drawer for Android Auto compatible apps.

    App icons are usually larger and easier to use when running.

  • Free functionality provides easy access to media playback in the driving mode map
  • There are also bits dedicated to calls, messages and media on the app drawer. These options show frequent communication as well as recent interactions.

    While using media apps in driving mode, tapping on the app icon opens basic media controls such as play / pause and next / previous tracks. A double tap allows you to “browse” more.

  • The device-compatible assistant will read the text, respond / respond to calls
  • Google made clear that Driving Mode for Google Assistant can only be enabled on Android-powered devices or with at least 4 GB of RAM.

    The search engine claimed that the assistant would read, make and receive calls, and the media would make it one of the popular streaming services.
