Macular pigment; antioxidant containing substance to prevent macular degeneration by ingestion of food

[글로벌경제신문 이재승 기자] Macular degeneration, one of three major blindness disorders in Korea, is not yet clearly identified as the cause of the disease and aging is the main cause. To prevent macular degeneration, eyes should be treated to prevent premature aging. Recent studies have shown that dietary habits play an important role in the development and progression of macular degeneration. Knowledge and understanding of foods that help and prevent macular degeneration will help prevent degeneration of the macula.

◆ Foods that contain many macular pigments also help protect the retina and improve vision

Several studies have shown that increasing macular pigment enhances visual function and even protects against blindness, such as blindness in older macular degeneration. Eating foods rich in macular pigment increases the amount of macular pigment in the eye. People with less macular pigments can protect the retina from damage to light because short wavelength light that causes tissue damage reaches nearly 100% closer macula macula, compared to less than 10%.

Therefore, consumption of egg yolk, spinach, yellow pumpkin and other foods containing large amounts of macular pigment can be expected to protect the retina and improve visual acuity.

◆ Macular degenerative nutrition is a dark colored fruit that contains many macular pigments

Colorful fruits and vegetables such as red, yellow, green, purple and black are rich in plant nutrients that are useful for our health. Red fruits such as tomatoes are rich in antioxidants called anthocyanins and lycopene. Yellow fruits such as pineapples and oranges are rich in beta-carotene and green, such as spinach, broccoli and cabbage, are suitable for detoxification of soy sauce and have anti-aging effects.

◆ Antioxidant drinks that are good for macular degeneration "Coffee, herbal tea and various teas (tea)"

One of the important ingredients in tea is a substance called "flavonoid". Flavonoids have antioxidant effects, prevent cardiovascular disease and have anti-aging effects in their eyes. Coffee contains polyphenols and chlorogenic acids that have antioxidant properties. Antioxidant activity of coffee may inhibit oxidative stress, which causes degeneration of macular degeneration in old age. Chlorogenate activates aging retinal nerve cells to help prevent macular degeneration.

Another good reason for cars is that they can add precious water. The necessary water needs to be absorbed to remove dirt and accumulate waste materials, which improves the flow of blood in the retina and other nerve tissues in the eye. Smooth blood flow of the retina can prevent senile AMD and slow the decrease in visual acuity in patients with diabetic retinopathy.

◆ Omega-3 rich in oil, suitable for macular degeneration Fish, olive oil

Omega-3 fatty acids are present in a large proportion in the retina, especially in the cell membrane of the visual cells. Omega-3 fatty acids are rich in olive oil and fish. Large epidemiological studies have shown that the frequency of senile AMD is lower in people who regularly consume fish, which is related to the effect of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids additionally have an anti-inflammatory effect which has the effect of inhibiting the inflammation of the eye associated with the development of macular degeneration.

◆ Good nutritional blocks for macular degeneration, beans and nuts

The beans from the lens are rich in plant proteins, high in unsaturated fat and dietary fiber, and are known not only to prevent cardiovascular disease and dementia but also to macular degeneration. Black beans commonly consumed in Korea contain more unsaturated fat and protein and fiber than a bottle.

If black beans are resistant, you can use beans or red beans. As with beans, nuts like peanut or cashew are good for macular degeneration. Nuts are rich in omega-3 unsaturated fatty acids that are essential for retinal nerve cell membranes such as DHA. Soybeans and nuts are also rich in selenium and zinc, minerals that are good for macular degeneration.
