JNS.org – An Arab man who tried to stab Israeli soldier at the entrance to the old Jewish town of Kiryat Arba was shot dead on Monday.
Israeli armed forces said the attempted murder took place in Elias Junction. The attacker was slightly injured in the IDF reaction and was taken to a nearby hospital for healing.
No Israelis were injured in the attack.
Kiryat Arba is the sister city of neighboring Hebron, the city of the blaze, which this past Shabbat hosted a record 40,000 Jews.

Visitors arrived to pilgrimage to the tomb of Patriarchs and Matriarchs in honor of Matriarch Sarah, whose death is remembered in that part of the Torah Week read in Shabbat. In this part of the text, the Bible records the purchase of the burial tomb in Hebron – a different name for the place – as the burial story of Abraham for his wife, a place that subsequently served as a burial ground for himself and his descendants, Isaac and Jacob, and their wives Rebecca and Leah.
A small part of Hebron was liberated in 1967 when the Jewish state took control of the tomb of the patriarchs and the matriarchs.
However, the city was used by anti-Israeli activists to try to portray Israel as an apartheid state, whereas while 97 percent of the city is controlled by the Palestinian Authority, 3 percent of the Jewish community is heavily guarded by IDF soldiers due to numerous terrorist attacks on residents, tourists and soldiers.
A Palestinian man was shot dead last month as he tried to stab Israeli soldiers in a holy place.
